The WA Branch of the Australia China Business Council held its Chinese New Year Dinner on 6 February.  This year a record 800 people attended the dinner, representing the cream of companies from Australia and China.

The keynote speakers at the dinner were Ambassador Frances Adamson, the Australian Ambassador to China; and Mr Nev Power, the CEO of FMG.  Both speakers delivered outstanding speeches.  Mdm Wang Yiner, the Chinese Consul General in Perth, also spoke and proposed a toast to welcome in the Year of the Dragon.  Deputy Premier Dr Kim Hames represented the Western Australian Government and spoke on WA’s strong relationship with China.

Other VIPs who attended include Chairman FMG Andrew Forrest, Shadow Treasurer Ben Wyatt, ACBC Chairman Frank Tudor, ACBC Chief Representative in China Paul Glasson, and Mr Li Ying, President of the Perth Branch of the China Chamber of Commerce in Australia.  Duncan Calder, President of the ACBC in WA, was the host of the evening.

Great performances during the night included Australia’s famous comedian Peter Rowsthorn, speed painter Brad Blaze and the WA Chin Woo Athletic Association.

Everyone who attended commented that this was one of the best ACBC events they have attended, with great opportunities for networking and great entertainment nicely combined.
